Iranian naval mines remain a significant obstacle to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, complicating the ceasefire negotiations and creating ongoing risk for commercial shipping.
Despite the ceasefire framework, Iranian naval mines laid during the conflict remain in place in and around the Strait of Hormuz. The mines are complicating efforts to reopen the critical shipping lane, which handles roughly 20% of global oil shipments.
