A Bangladeshi national was killed by falling shrapnel from a drone interception in Fujairah, UAE, the official UAE state news agency WAM confirmed. A Bangladeshi national was killed by falling shrapnel after a drone was intercepted over Fujairah, UAE, the official UAE state news agency WAM posted on X. 'Shrapnel falling from the interception of a drone resulted in the killing of a person of Bangladeshi nationality,' WAM said. Fujairah emirate is located on the Gulf of Oman coast, close to the Strait of Hormuz — outside the Persian Gulf, making it a key port for oil tankers that bypass Hormuz. The death is the first confirmed civilian fatality in the UAE caused by drone interception debris during the Iran war. UAE air defenses have been active throughout the conflict, engaging dozens of Iranian drones and missiles. The inherent risk of falling interception debris over populated areas has now resulted in a civilian death. This comes as the UAE simultaneously banned Iranian nationals from entering or transiting earlier the same day (April 1).
