IAF bombs Iran's only yellowcake production plant in Ardakan — IDF: 'only one of its kind in Iran'

·Ardakan, Yazd Province, Iran

IDF confirmed bombing the Ardakan yellowcake plant: 'This facility is the only one of its kind in Iran, where raw materials mined from the ground undergo mechanical and chemical processing so that they can later be used as precursor materials for uranium enrichment.' IDF: 'Highly important process for the nuclear weapons program advanced by the regime.' Struck 'central infrastructure used in the site's unique production processes.' Iran AEOI confirmed no radioactive release. By destroying Iran's sole yellowcake production facility, the IAF has severed the first link in Iran's uranium enrichment chain.

Iran's Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) confirmed on 27 March 2026 that the Ardakan yellowcake production plant in Yazd Province was hit in an airstrike. The AEOI stated the plant was struck by 'an American-Zionist enemy attack.' Initial assessments found that 'this incident has not resulted in any release of radioactive materials outside the facility, and therefore there is no concern for citizens or surrounding areas.' The strike was reported by the Fars news agency. Yellowcake (uranium oxide concentrate) is produced by mining uranium ore and separating uranium from rock using acid baths. It is the first stage of the uranium enrichment process, serving as the feed material for conversion plants and eventually enrichment centrifuges for nuclear fuel or weapons-grade uranium. Destroying the Ardakan facility disrupts Iran's uranium feedstock supply chain. Combined with the confirmed same-day strike on the Arak IR-40 heavy water reactor, Day 28 represents the most aggressive day of nuclear-supply-chain targeting in the current conflict.

Actor responses

IranOPPOSINGMILITARY

AEOI confirmed: 'The Ardakan yellowcake production plant was hit by an American-Zionist enemy attack. Initial assessments indicate no release of radioactive materials outside the facility — no concern for citizens.' Yellowcake is the first-stage uranium feedstock for enrichment.

Israel Defense ForcesOPPOSINGMILITARY

The IAF struck the Ardakan yellowcake facility the same day as the Arak heavy water reactor — systematically targeting Iran's nuclear material supply chain. The IDF has not specifically commented on the Ardakan strike.

United StatesNEUTRALMILITARY

The US has not commented on the Ardakan yellowcake plant strike. AEOI's framing as an 'American-Zionist enemy attack' implies possible US involvement or at minimum joint targeting authorization.
