Houthis: 'Fingers on trigger' for direct military intervention in Iran war — Saree

·Sanaa, Yemen

Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree in a televised speech: 'We affirm that our fingers are on the trigger for direct military intervention.' Conditions: if new allies join the US-Israeli coalition OR if the Red Sea is used to launch attacks on Iran. The Houthis have not yet formally entered the war despite being an Iranian proxy (IRGC-funded, trained, equipped). Saree's conditional threat signals Houthi readiness to open a Red Sea/Gulf of Aden front.

Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree delivered a televised speech on 27 March 2026, announcing that Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi movement is ready to intervene militarily in the US-Israeli war against Iran under specific conditions. 'We affirm that our fingers are on the trigger for direct military intervention,' Saree said. The conditions for Houthi intervention are: (1) if new allies join the United States and Israel in the conflict, or (2) if the Red Sea is used to launch attacks on Iran. The Houthis have been a major Iranian proxy throughout the conflict era, having attacked Israeli and US shipping during the Gaza conflict (2023-2025). The group controls most of Yemen's coast including the strategically critical Bab el-Mandeb Strait. Houthi military intervention would open a new front: missile and drone attacks on Israel from the south (already demonstrated capability), renewed Red Sea shipping interdiction, and potential targeting of US naval assets in the Arabian Sea.

United StatesOPPOSINGMILITARY

The US has not responded to Saree's intervention threat. The US has previously conducted extensive strikes on Houthi military infrastructure in Yemen (2024-2025). Houthi entry would require CENTCOM to open a third front (in addition to Iran and Iraq/Gulf).

Israel Defense ForcesOPPOSINGMILITARY

Israel has not responded to the Houthi intervention threat. During the Gaza conflict, the IDF conducted strikes on Hodeidah port in response to Houthi attacks. Houthi long-range ballistic missiles have previously reached the Tel Aviv area.
