US preparing 'final blow' options for Iran if talks fail — four plans including island seizures and HEU capture
Axios reports the US is working on four 'final blow' options against Iran if high-level negotiations fail and Hormuz threats continue: (1) seize or blockade Kharg Island; (2) take Larak Island in the Strait, which has Iranian bases and small attack boats; (3) invade Abu Musa Island in the eastern Gulf; (4) block or seize Iranian oil export ships. Separately, plans are under consideration to seize Iran's highly enriched uranium from ruined nuclear facilities inside Iran, or to bomb those sites to secure the material. Trump has not decided on any plan.
Actor responses
US officials tell Axios four 'final blow' options are under discussion: seize Kharg Island, take Larak Island, invade Abu Musa Island, or block Iranian oil ships. Separately: plans to seize or destroy Iran's HEU stockpile at ruined nuclear sites. Trump has not yet decided but is pressuring Iran to 'get serious soon.'
Iran has fortified Kharg Island and parliament speaker Qalibaf has warned any seizure of an Iranian island would trigger 'relentless, unceasing attacks' on the regional state involved. Iran has not publicly responded to the Axios report.
IRGC controls Larak Island, Abu Musa Island, and Kharg Island defenses. All three locations have been reinforced during the conflict. Larak hosts radar systems and small attack boats used to enforce the Hormuz chokehold.
