Pakistan at risk of running out of LNG within 10 days as Qatar export disruptions halt Gulf supplies

·Karachi, Pakistan

Pakistan is likely to run out of liquefied natural gas within the next 10 days as disruptions to Qatar's export infrastructure halt Gulf LNG supplies, triggering a wider global energy crunch, according to a Financial Times report. Pakistan is heavily dependent on Qatari LNG and has no short-term alternative supply.

Pakistan is at acute risk of running out of liquefied natural gas (LNG) within 10 days, according to a Financial Times report cited by Times Now. The crisis stems from disruptions to Qatar's export infrastructure caused by the Iran war, which has halted LNG supplies from the Gulf. Pakistan is heavily dependent on Qatari LNG for power generation and industrial use, with limited alternative supply options in the short term. The FT report described the situation as part of a 'wider global energy crunch' driven by the war. This follows the IEA's warning that the Iran war energy crisis is worse than the 1973 and 1979 oil shocks combined, and comes as the IEA chief noted 140 BCM of gas supply has been disrupted — nearly double the disruption from Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine. Pakistan's potential LNG emergency would affect electricity generation for 220 million people.

Iran's war-driven disruption to Qatar's export infrastructure is creating cascading LNG shortages across dependent economies including Pakistan, which faces a 10-day supply crisis.
