UN Security Council holds urgent closed session on Iran's Gulf energy attacks — Bahrain cites continuing 'cowardly attacks'

·New York, United States

The UN Security Council held an urgent closed meeting after Bahrain's UN Ambassador requested an emergency session on Iran's 'cowardly attacks' on Gulf countries, Jordan, and civilian energy infrastructure. Council members stressed implementation of the March 11 UNSC resolution (13-0, Russia and China abstaining) demanding Iran halt attacks on Gulf states and Hormuz navigation.

Bahrain's UN Ambassador Jamal Alrowaiei requested an urgent UN Security Council session in response to Iran's continuing attacks on Gulf countries, Jordan, and other nations. In a statement after the closed meeting, Alrowaiei said Bahrain and many of the 15 council members stressed the need for Iran to implement the March 11 UNSC resolution. The March 11 resolution, adopted 13-0 with Russia and China abstaining, demanded: - An immediate halt to attacks against Gulf countries and targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure, including energy installations - Iran to stop all actions and threats aimed at closing, obstructing, or interfering with navigation through the Strait of Hormuz Alrowaiei described Iran's attacks as 'cowardly.' He dodged questions about whether Bahrain is seeking a new resolution on freedom of navigation through Hormuz. The meeting took place as Iran continues to strike Gulf energy targets: Kuwait refineries, SAMREF Yanbu, Qatar Ras Laffan, UAE Habshan — and Bahrain's sirens were activated again early Friday (Day 21).
