Iran fires second missile wave at Qatar's LNG facilities — QatarEnergy reports 'sizeable fires and extensive further damage'

·Ras Laffan Industrial City, Qatar

Iran struck Qatar's Ras Laffan LNG facilities in a second wave. QatarEnergy CEO Saad al-Kaabi told Reuters the attacks knocked out nearly a fifth of Qatar's LNG export capacity, with repairs expected to take three to five years. Sizeable fires and extensive further damage at multiple LNG facilities confirmed. All fires now contained. No initial casualties reported.

QatarEnergy issued a statement early Thursday confirming that 'several of its Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) facilities' had been 'the target of missile attacks in the early hours of Thursday,' causing 'sizeable fires and extensive further damage.' Emergency response teams were deployed and no casualties were reported. QatarEnergy explicitly noted these attacks were 'in addition to the previous attack on Ras Laffan Industrial City on Wednesday that resulted in extensive damage to the Pearl GTL (Gas-to-Liquids) facility.' The Pearl GTL is one of the world's largest gas-to-liquids plants, operated by Shell and QatarEnergy. The second wave attack on Thursday morning represents an escalation within Qatar's LNG complex, targeting multiple facilities simultaneously. Ras Laffan is the world's largest LNG export facility, responsible for approximately 20% of global LNG supply. Extensive damage across multiple plants could affect Qatar's ability to resume exports for months after the war ends. The attack directly triggered US President Trump's Truth Social post threatening to 'massively blow up the entirety of the South Pars gas field' if Qatar is struck again — his most explicit US military threat of the war.
