Iran warns of global repercussions: Araghchi on nuclear doctrine, Pezeshkian warns of uncontrollable consequences that could engulf entire world

·Tehran, Iran

Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi said nuclear doctrine unlikely to change despite the war, noting the new supreme leader has not yet publicly expressed his view. Separately, President Pezeshkian posted on X that continued US-Israel attacks will not benefit their side and warned "could have uncontrollable consequences, the scope of which could engulf the entire world."

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi gave a wide-ranging interview to Al Jazeera on March 18 covering both the economic consequences of the war and Iran nuclear policy. On global repercussions, Araghchi posted on X: "Wave of global repercussions has only begun and will hit all — regardless of wealth, faith, or race." He cited US National Counterterrorism Center director Joe Kent resignation, calling on more Western officials to push back against the war. In the Al Jazeera interview, Araghchi separately stated that Iran stance against the development of nuclear weapons would not significantly change despite the war. The statement is significant — it signals Iran is not using the conflict as cover to pivot toward weaponization, and directly responds to international community concern that the war could accelerate Iran nuclear breakout. The dual message — threatening global economic repercussions while ruling out nuclear escalation — reflects Iran diplomatic strategy of maintaining deterrence through conventional and economic pressure while avoiding the international isolation that would come with a declared weaponization push. Iran has maintained its official position of not developing nuclear weapons even as its Natanz and Fordow facilities have been struck by US-Israeli operations.
