Sa'ar: Israel not seeking 'endless war' — will coordinate with US on when to stop; German FM: Iran 'not ready' for diplomacy

·Jerusalem, Israel

Joint press conference Sa'ar + German FM Wadephul: 'We are not looking for an endless war — will consult our American friends when it's the right time to stop.' Sa'ar: 'The new Khamenei is no less extremist than the previous.' Wadephul: 'For now, Tehran is not ready for a diplomatic solution — and as long as this is not the case, we still have to wait.'

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar held a joint press conference with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul in Jerusalem — the first international diplomatic event hosted by Israel since the war began. Sa'ar made Israel's most significant public statement on war duration to date: 'We are not looking for an endless war. In due time, we will consult with our American friends when we think it is the right time to stop.' He declined to give a timeline but said Israel's goals are 'to remove for the long term existential threats from Iran to Israel,' adding that this is 'hard to see with the current regime.' On Mojtaba: 'The new Khamenei is no less extremist than the previous.' Sa'ar emphasised: 'We must not miss this opportunity with partial results. So we will continue until the minute that we and our partners think it is appropriate to stop.' On the prospects for regime change: 'Regime change can also happen after the campaign. But it's important to create the conditions for change in Iran, for the people of Iran to be able to regain their freedom.' German FM Wadephul said Berlin hopes for a diplomatic solution and believes Jerusalem and Washington 'are ready for a diplomatic solution' — but that Iran is not. 'For now, this is what we hear from Tehran: they are not ready for a diplomatic solution. And as long as this is not the case, we still have to wait.' The press conference aligned Germany with Israel's war aims while maintaining European diplomatic distance from regime change rhetoric.

Actor responses

IsraelSUPPORTINGSTATEMENT

Israel is not looking for endless war. In due time we will consult American friends when we think it is the right time to stop. We must not miss this opportunity with partial results.

IranOPPOSINGSTATEMENT

Saar statement that Israel will consult Americans confirms the Zionist entity does not act without Washington. Iran will not accept any outcome that does not end the aggression entirely.
