US B-2 bombers drop dozens of 2,000lb penetrator bombs on deeply buried Iranian missile launchers

US CENTCOM Commander Admiral Brad Cooper, speaking at a press conference alongside Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth on March 5, announced that B-2 Spirit stealth bombers had in the past few hours dropped dozens of 2,000-pound GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrator (MOP) bombs targeting deeply buried ballistic missile launchers inside Iran. Cooper said the US military objective had evolved to 'raze or level' Iran's ballistic missile production and launch infrastructure. Bombings were also targeting missile production facilities. The use of B-2 bombers with penetrator munitions marks a significant escalation — the B-2 is the only aircraft capable of delivering the MOP against hardened deeply buried targets. CENTCOM also updated its assessment of Iranian naval forces destroyed: more than 30 ships now eliminated, up from the previously reported 17. The strikes were in direct response to ongoing Iranian missile and drone salvos targeting Israel and Gulf states.
