The carrier is accompanied by its strike group including the destroyer Forbin (air defence), a nuclear attack submarine, and supply vessels. The deployment signals a major escalation in France's military commitment to the region. Macron addressed the French public: 'France will not allow the destabilisation of our partners in the region. The Charles de Gaulle will ensure we can protect French nationals, conduct defensive operations, and deter further Iranian aggression.' The carrier's presence in the Mediterranean creates a third carrier strike group in the region (alongside USS Gerald R. Ford and USS Harry S.
