UN chief strongly condemns Israeli strikes across Lebanon — 1.1 million displaced

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres strongly condemned Israeli airstrikes across Lebanon, saying the strikes were causing unacceptable civilian casualties and demanded an immediate halt to operations. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs reported 1.1 million Lebanese had been displaced since the conflict escalated in early March.
UN Secretary-General Guterres issued a statement on April 9 strongly condemning Israeli strikes across Lebanon, saying the scale of civilian harm was completely unacceptable. The UN OCHA reported 1.1 million internally displaced persons in Lebanon, the highest number since the 2006 war. Australia separately called for Lebanon to be included in any ceasefire framework, saying the current carve-out was producing catastrophic humanitarian consequences.
