Sgt. Aviaad Elchanan Volansky, 21, from Jerusalem, serving in the 77th Battalion of the 7th Armored Brigade, was killed in southern Lebanon on 26 March 2026 after Hezbollah launched two anti-tank missiles from an area north of the Litani River in the eastern sector. The Merkava's Trophy active protection system successfully intercepted the first missile. The second struck the tank, killing Volansky and wounding four crew members — two officers and two soldiers, all lightly wounded. Volansky is the fourth IDF soldier killed in Israel's renewed ground offensive against Hezbollah. He is the son of Defense Establishment Comptroller Brig. Gen. (res.) Yair Volansky, who previously commanded the 401st Armored Brigade. The attack, launched from north of the Litani River, is consistent with the ATGM operations that Hezbollah commander Hassan Bashir — killed overnight — had been developing in the same area.

Hezbollah launched two ATGMs from north of the Litani River in the eastern sector, successfully defeating Trophy protection and striking a Merkava tank. The attack is consistent with Hezbollah's ongoing ATGM campaign despite the killing of ATGM commander Bashir overnight.
