IDF destroys IRGC Mi-17 helicopter at Sanandaj Airport — expanding air superiority in western Iran

The Israel Air Force struck and destroyed a Mi-17 military helicopter belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) at Sanandaj Airport in Iran's Kurdistan Province overnight March 18-19. The IDF announced the strike Thursday morning and released video footage. IDF statement: 'The IDF continues to deepen the damage to the military capabilities of the Revolutionary Guards air force and expand air superiority in western Iran.' The IAF also reported targeting Basij operatives in western Iran in concurrent operations. Sanandaj is the capital of Kurdistan Province (approx. 35.25N, 47.01E), approximately 450km west of Tehran near the Iraqi border. The Mi-17 is a Soviet-designed military transport and utility helicopter widely used by the IRGC for logistics and troop movements.
