Saudi Arabia intercepts 2 drones over eastern province — oil region targeted
Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Defence announced the interception and destruction of two drones over the kingdom's eastern province, according to a statement on X. The eastern province is home to Saudi Aramco's major oil facilities including Abqaiq processing plant — the world's largest crude oil processing facility — Ras Tanura export terminal, and Dhahran headquarters. The attack comes amid Iran FM Araghchi's explicit threat to strike US-linked energy infrastructure across the Gulf.
Actor responses
The IRGC and its allies continue to strike legitimate targets across the region. Saudi Arabia's eastern province hosts American military and commercial infrastructure. It is within our operational reach.
Saudi Arabia successfully intercepted two drones targeting its eastern province — the heart of global oil production. These attacks on our partner's critical infrastructure demonstrate Iran's reckless disregard for global energy stability.
Drones targeting Saudi Arabia's eastern province — home to the world's largest oil processing facilities — represent a direct threat to global energy supply. Any successful attack on Abqaiq would cause immediate global economic shock. We call for an immediate halt to these attacks.
