Saudi Arabia intercepts 28 drones — breached airspace over eastern region and Riyadh Diplomatic Quarter

·Eastern Saudi Arabia / Riyadh

Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Defense confirmed its air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 28 drones after they entered Saudi airspace — targeting the kingdom's eastern and central regions. A separate drone was also destroyed approaching the Diplomatic Quarter in Riyadh. This is the second major Saudi intercept of Day 14, following the overnight 12-drone intercept. Saudi Arabia also destroyed ~10 drones over its eastern region in a third separate action.

Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Defense spokesperson Maj Gen Turki al-Maliki confirmed that 28 drones were intercepted and destroyed after entering Saudi airspace, targeting the kingdom's eastern and central regions. A drone was also destroyed while approaching the Diplomatic Quarter in Riyadh — the zone housing foreign embassies including the US mission, which was previously targeted earlier in the conflict. Arab News reported that 'more than two dozen drones' were intercepted in Saudi airspace while a similar number headed to the eastern and central regions were destroyed. The Day 14 Saudi intercept count — combining overnight (12) and morning (28+) operations — represents the highest single-day Saudi drone intercept total since the war began. Saudi defenses continue to operate with US-supplied THAAD and Patriot systems reinforced by Ukrainian anti-drone expertise deployed throughout the Gulf since early March.
