The FBI confirmed on March 30 that Ayman Ghazali, 41, of Dearborn Heights, Michigan, was carrying out a Hezbollah-inspired terrorist attack when he rammed his Ford F150 pickup truck through the closed doors of Temple Israel synagogue in West Bloomfield Township on March 12. FBI Detroit head Jennifer Runyan said: 'We assess this attack to be a Hezbollah-inspired act of terrorism purposely targeting the Jewish community and the largest Jewish temple in Michigan. We do not make this characterization lightly without a thorough review and keen evaluation of the facts. In this case, the evidence shows the attacker was motivated and inspired by Hezbollah's militant ideology.' Runyan added that Ghazali sought out Iranian and pro-Hezbollah content online and 'regularly consumed breaking news and statements and live coverage of the current secretary-general of Hezbollah, Naim Qassem.' Ghazali made a video before the attack saying he wanted to 'kill as many of them as I possibly can.' The IDF confirmed Ghazali's brother was a Hezbollah commander killed in IDF strikes. The vehicle was stocked with commercial-grade fireworks and jugs of gasoline. Ghazali struck a security guard, then exchanged gunfire with a second guard before fatally shooting himself. No one among the 150 children and staff was injured.
