PMF arms depot struck in Iraq — woman killed by shrapnel near Al-Suwaira, 1 seriously wounded

·Al-Suwaira, Wasit Province, Iraq

Strike hits Asaib Ahl al-Haq arms depot at PMF base near Al-Suwaira, southeast Baghdad. Shrapnel kills woman in nearby town of Wasit province. One person seriously wounded. Part of ongoing US/Israel strikes on Iran-backed Iraqi armed groups.

A strike targeted an arms depot at a military base hosting the powerful Asaib Ahl al-Haq group near the town of Al-Suwaira, southeast of Baghdad, in Wasit province. A woman was killed when shrapnel from a rocket fell near her following the strike. A local health official confirmed her death and said another person was seriously wounded. The military base belongs to the Hashed al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces) and encompasses brigades from Iran-backed groups, including the US-blacklisted Asaib Ahl al-Haq. Since the start of the war, PMF bases have been hit multiple times by strikes attributed to the US and Israel. The Al-Suwaira strike is part of the ongoing USIL campaign to degrade Iran-backed proxy infrastructure in Iraq — Asaib Ahl al-Haq is one of the most powerful IRGC-linked groups in Iraq, with estimated 20,000+ fighters and direct IRGC Quds Force command ties. The civilian casualty from shrapnel is the latest instance of the Iraq front producing collateral damage in populated areas near PMF facilities.
