Iran ceasefire demand: US and Israel must guarantee no future attacks — Bloomberg

·Tehran, Iran / Muscat, Oman

Bloomberg: Iran has told mediators it will only agree to ceasefire if US and Israel provide a binding guarantee they will not attack Iran again in the future. Non-starter for both Washington and Jerusalem. Oman-mediated back-channel active despite Salalah port attack.

Iran has told mediators that it will only agree to a ceasefire to end the war if it includes an American guarantee that the US and Israel will not attack the Islamic Republic again in the future, Bloomberg reported citing unnamed sources with knowledge of the matter. Such a demand is assessed as highly unlikely to be accepted by either Washington or Jerusalem. The White House has defined 'victory' as Iran's unconditional surrender and the destruction of its ballistic missile arsenal — a demand that is structurally incompatible with Iran's survival as a regional power. Israel has explicitly stated it aims to enable regime change. Iran's demand for a 'no future attack' guarantee reflects its awareness that any ceasefire without such a guarantee would leave it militarily degraded and vulnerable to a second strike, while its nuclear program is under ongoing destruction and its supreme leader wounded. The back-channel is believed to be operating through Oman despite Iran's attack on Salalah port — a remarkable diplomatic asymmetry where Iran is simultaneously attacking its mediator's infrastructure while seeking a deal through it. Russia is also positioned as a potential intermediary following Putin's call with Pezeshkian.
