Bahrain redirects aircraft from Bahrain International Airport to alternative airports
·Bahrain International Airport, Bahrain
Bahrain Civil Aviation Affairs: coordinated transfer of aircraft from Bahrain International Airport to alternative airports 'to enhance operational readiness.' Bahrain International Airport co-located with NSA Bahrain (US 5th Fleet HQ).
Bahrain's Civil Aviation Affairs said it coordinated the successful transfer of aircraft from Bahrain International Airport to alternative airports. The authority said the repositioning was 'carried out to enhance operational readiness.' The move is significant because Bahrain International Airport is co-located with Naval Support Activity Bahrain — headquarters of the US Navy's 5th Fleet, which commands all US naval forces in the Persian Gulf, Red Sea, Arabian Sea, and Indian Ocean. Relocating civilian aircraft from the airport reduces vulnerability to Iranian strikes and creates operational space for military aircraft. Bahrain has already suffered 1 killed in the conflict. The aircraft redirection, combined with Dubai's airport drone attack, signals that Gulf states are actively moving to protect aviation infrastructure from Iranian strike campaigns.
