UN: 100,000 displaced in Lebanon in a single day — 667,000 total registered, faster pace than 2024

UNHCR Lebanon representative: 667,000+ Lebanese registered as displaced on government platform — 100,000 added in just 24 hours. 'Faster pace of displacement compared to 2024.' IDF evacuation orders cover all south Lebanon south of Litani + Beirut Dahiyeh. Over 1 million total displaced estimated.

The United Nations reported that more than 100,000 people were newly displaced within Lebanon in a single 24-hour period, as IDF operations against Hezbollah intensify across southern Lebanon and Beirut's suburbs. 'As of today, more than 667,000 people in Lebanon have now registered on the Lebanese government's online platform as displaced — and this is an increase of 100,000 in just one day,' said Karolina Lindholm Billing, the UNHCR representative in Lebanon, speaking from Beirut to reporters in Geneva. 'That's a faster pace of displacement compared to 2024,' she added, referring to the previous 2024 conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, which itself displaced over 1 million Lebanese before a ceasefire. The IDF has issued blanket evacuation orders for all of southern Lebanon south of the Litani River — an area of roughly 1,500 square kilometers — as well as specific neighbourhoods in Beirut's southern suburbs, including Haret Hreik, Ghobeiry, Laylaki, Hadath, Burj al-Barajneh, Tahwitat al-Ghadir, and Shiyyah. The registered displacement figure of 667,000 is likely an undercount — many displaced people, particularly the elderly and those without internet access, have not registered on the government platform. Total actual displacement is estimated to exceed 1 million. The pace — 100,000 in 24 hours — reflects the IDF's evacuation warnings for Tyre and Sidon and the ongoing ground operations in the south.
