Israelis express solidarity with American families. 'Both countries fighting together against a common enemy.'
Israelis set up a memorial in Tel Aviv's Dizengoff Square — one of the city's most prominent public spaces — to honour the six US Army Reserve soldiers killed in an Iranian drone strike on their command center at Port Shuaiba, Kuwait on March 1. Photos of the fallen soldiers are displayed alongside flowers brought by passersby. A sign reads: 'For the American heroes, your courage and dedication will not be forgotten.' The six soldiers were US Army Reserve logistics personnel working at the Kuwaiti port when an Iranian drone hit their command center. Their deaths — the first US fatalities of the war — occurred one day after the US and Israel launched the joint military campaign against Iran. A seventh US soldier later died from wounds sustained in a separate attack in Saudi Arabia. Tel Aviv resident Gili Klein, whose boyfriend is currently serving in the IDF, paused at the memorial: 'Both of the countries are fighting together against a common enemy, and I think it's really beautiful to see the solidarity between the people.' The Dizengoff memorial is a public expression of the US-Israel alliance at the human level — complementing the joint military operations playing out across the region.
