Kremlin: Putin's Iran war mediation proposals 'still on the table' — Witkoff asked Russia not to share targeting data with Iran
·Moscow, Russia
Peskov: Putin proposed 'various options for mediation' before and during the war — many still open. Putin shared proposals to end war with Trump by phone. Trump says Putin 'wants to be helpful' but told him to fix Ukraine first. Witkoff reportedly asked Russia not to supply intelligence to Iran after WaPo report Moscow was giving Tehran targeting data.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that Vladimir Putin's proposals to mediate in the Iran war 'are still on the table.' 'From the very beginning of this situation, even before the military phase began, President Putin has proposed various options for our mediation and good offices that could help reduce tensions. Many of these proposals are still on the table,' Peskov said. He added that Russia 'is ready to assist to the best of its ability' but noted that ending the war requires 'multiple understandings and multiple agreements.' The announcement came a day after Putin spoke by phone to President Trump and, according to the Kremlin, shared specific proposals aimed at ending the war quickly. Trump told reporters yesterday that Putin 'wants to be helpful' with Iran, but responded: 'You could be more helpful by getting the Ukraine-Russia war over with.' Critically, Trump's envoy Steve Witkoff reportedly asked Russia — in a separate conversation — not to supply intelligence to Iran, after the Washington Post reported that Moscow was providing Tehran with targeting data to help it strike US forces in the Middle East. Peskov declined to comment on the targeting data report or whether it came up in the Putin-Trump call. Russia has publicly condemned the US-Israeli strikes while benefiting economically from the resulting oil price surge.
