France supplies air defense systems to Middle East allies — Vautrin confirms equipment deliveries
·Paris, France / Gulf region
French Defense Minister Catherine Vautrin confirms France has supplied air defense material to allies in the Middle East following Iranian strikes. Expands France's role beyond CDG carrier group to active equipment transfers. France now the most militarily engaged European power in the conflict.
French Defense Minister Catherine Vautrin confirmed to French broadcaster franceinfo that France has supplied air defense material to its allies in the Middle East in response to Iranian strikes on regional partners. Vautrin did not specify which allies received the equipment or what systems were transferred. The confirmation significantly expands France's military role in the conflict beyond the deployment of the Charles de Gaulle carrier group to the eastern Mediterranean. France is now: (1) projecting naval power via the CDG carrier group; (2) hosting talks in Cyprus; (3) supplying air defense systems to Gulf partners under Iranian attack. The air defense transfers are likely to the UAE, Saudi Arabia, or Bahrain — all of whom have suffered Iranian missile and drone strikes during the war. France operates the SAMP/T (Aster 30) medium-range air defense system, which has been previously exported to several NATO and partner nations. France's active military supply role makes it the most engaged European power in the conflict — ahead of the UK, which has focused on Typhoon sorties and base access. The equipment transfers also represent a commercial and strategic opportunity: France is building long-term defense relationships with Gulf states that will outlast the current war.
