·Beirut / Southern Lebanon

UNHCR reports nearly 100,000 people displaced in Lebanon and tens of thousands of Syrian refugees fleeing back to Syria. Describes situation as major humanitarian emergency. Displaced families break Ramadan fast on Beirut streets.

The UN refugee agency UNHCR reported that nearly 100,000 people have been displaced within Lebanon as Israel renews its large-scale strikes against Hezbollah on Day 7. Additionally, tens of thousands of Syrian refugees who had been residing in Lebanon have fled back across the Syrian border. UNHCR described the situation in the region as a major humanitarian emergency. Displaced families in Beirut Dahiyeh southern suburbs are living on the streets after a large-scale Israeli evacuation order, many forced to break their Ramadan fast outdoors. News agencies on the ground spoke to displaced persons, many of whom had already been previously displaced. The displacement crisis adds to a toll of 72 Lebanese killed and 437 wounded since the war began February 28. Lebanon lacks the infrastructure or international support to manage this scale of displacement.
