Iran Strikes Baghdad Airport, Basra Oil Complex and Erbil — Fire at Halliburton and KBR Warehouses

Iran-backed armed factions launched a coordinated overnight offensive across Iraq on the night of Day 6, striking three separate targets simultaneously. In the southern province of Basra, the Burjesia oil complex housing foreign energy companies came under two separate attacks; security officials confirmed two drones were shot down but a third got through and hit the site, starting a fire in offices and warehouses belonging to US firms Halliburton and KBR. Reuters quoted security sources and confirmed fire with photographs showing smoke rising from the compound. The same oil field and Basra airport were also hit in the attacks. In the north, near Erbil, the international coalition forces downed four explosive-laden drones over the airport after a warning of possible attacks on hotels. Kurdish security forces confirmed the intercepts. The coordinated nature of the strikes — Baghdad, Basra, and Erbil simultaneously — signals a deliberate Iranian strategy to expand the economic and military cost of the war across the full breadth of Iraqi territory, targeting US military presence, diplomatic infrastructure, and oil production simultaneously.
