Qatar evacuates residents near US Embassy Doha — 'precautionary measure'

·Doha, Qatar

Qatar's Ministry of Interior is evacuating residents living near the US Embassy in Doha as a 'temporary precautionary measure.' The embassy is a potential IRGC target. Qatar's FM simultaneously made the first direct call with Iran's FM since the conflict began.

Qatar's Ministry of Interior announced it is conducting 'temporary precautionary evacuations' of residents living in proximity to the US Embassy compound in Doha. The US Embassy in Doha — housed in the West Bay diplomatic district — is considered a high-priority IRGC target following drone strikes on the US Embassies in Riyadh and Kuwait. The evacuation is approximately 500 metres radius around the compound. Simultaneously, Qatar's Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani made the first direct phone call with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi since the conflict began. Qatar FM demanded an 'immediate halt' to Iran's strikes and stated Iran was 'trying to drag neighbouring countries into a war that is not theirs.' The call is significant: Qatar hosts Al Udeid Air Base, one of the most valuable US assets in the region. Qatar is caught between protecting its American alliance and avoiding being dragged into the conflict. The FM-to-FM call is the first direct Arab-Iran communication of the conflict.

Sources: Oman has passed a back-channel message from Iran to the US. Iran is not asking for ceasefire — they are asking for a 72-hour humanitarian pause, explicitly not linked to political concessions. The ask is narrow. The question is whether Washington sees opportunity or weakness.

PHAROS NOTEIf confirmed, Oman back-channel is the first direct Iran-US signalling of the conflict. Iran asking for 'pause not ceasefire' is strategically careful — they are not surrendering, just asking for breathing room. Washington's response will define the next phase.

PHAROS NOTEQatar FM-Iran FM = first Arab-Iran direct diplomatic contact of the conflict. Qatar is trying to hold a middle position: US ally (Al Udeid), but not at war with Iran. The evacuation signals Qatar takes the threat to its US Embassy very seriously.
